Mission Critical Occupations
DCPAS is responsible for managing the Mission Critical Occupation (MCO) process. MCO is defined as “An occupation having the potential to put a strategic program or goal at risk of failure related to human capital deficiencies.” MCOs are identified in the DOD’s MCO Determination/Validation process. This DOD process requires Functional Communities and Components to identify/revalidate their MCOs every four years. Component lists are factored into DOD’s MCO Health Assessment model which is used to determine the health of MCOs.
