Deployment Opportunities

DoD has relied on its civilian workforce to deploy in support of expeditionary requirements for as long as contingency operations have existed. DoD civilians are a critical part of the Total Force and essential to ensuring the readiness, capability, capacity, and lethality of our military forces. From 2001 to present, DoD civilians have provided significant support to military forces in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations throughout the world.

Primary Occupational Needs for Deployment

There are a broad range of occupations represented by the civilian workforce within our deployed locations. Available positions range from blue collar to white collar, to include senior executive deployment opportunities.

The chart shown above reflects the primary occupational deployment needs for the combatant commands. Logisticians (0346), Financial Management Specialists (0501), Human Resource Specialists (0201), IT Analysts (0132), and Engineers (0801/0810/0819/0830/0850), Safety (0018) and Emergency Management (0089/0080s) are in high demand within the deployed environment.

Army Expeditionary Civilian Workforce Positions

Department of the Army is seeking Army civilians to fill urgent deployable civilian requirements within the USCENTCOM Area of Responsibility. Ministry of Defense Advisors (MoDA) Available Positions

The Ministry of Defense Advisor (MoDA) Program is aligned under DSCU’s Institutional Capacity Building Directorate (ICBD). The MoDA program partners senior Department of Defense (DoD) civilian experts with foreign counterparts at the ministerial level to build institutional capacity in key areas, including Acquisition and Logistics, Personnel and Readiness, Strategy and Policy, Human Resource and Financial Management, Cyber, and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA). The MoDA Program is designed to forge long-term relationships that strengthen a partner country's defense or interior ministry. MoDA leverages the specialized capabilities of DoD civilians and provides reach back support along with cultural, operational, and advisor training to ensure that in-country advising is appropriate, effective, and sustainable. Since July 2010, MoDA has trained and deployed over 700+ advisors to more than 30 countries. The following MoDA opportunities are available to qualified GS-13/14/15 civilians in permanent DoD positions.
